Whitby Holiday Park

4a2b5cf5-5d58-43ed-96e5-efd9d8327d49
Commanding a prime cliff top location, Whitby Holiday Park is one of the closest campsites to Whitby.

Many of the pitches on this MMM Premier Park have a dramatic view of the sea. A unique feature of this park is that you can see the ruins of the gothic Whitby Abbey from the site and a short walk takes you there. A path from the cliff top leads down to sandy beaches and a coastal path from the campsite takes you into the heart of the town centre.

The pitches themselves are mainly set on firm grass with electric hook-ups. Central to the pitches are the recently refurbished toilet and shower blocks which also offer a laundry room and disabled facilities. Opposite the reception is the bar which has a clubhouse that offers entertainment in peak season. The cafe serves home-made snacks and meals, including breakfasts, and beverages. The park shop is open daily and stocks all the essentials plus postcards, toys and gifts. To keep children entertained the park has an amusement room with arcade games and there's a children's play area along with an enclosed play area for smaller children.

You can walk from Whitby Holiday Park via a cliff top path that takes you down to Saltwick Bay beach which is great for families and dog owners. Whitby itself has a large beach to the east and a smaller one to the west. For somewhere more peaceful you can head down the coastal paths from the campsite which give direct access to a quieter beach. There are many rockpools here for the children to explore too.

It's not just the beaches that are worth visiting here. Whitby Abbey, which dates back to the 13th century is a few minutes' walk from the campsite. Further along the coastal path is another famous landmark - St Mary's Church, which was made famous by featuring in Bram Stoker's Dracula. The church is also at the top of Whitby's 199 steps which lead sharply down into the cobbled streets of the old part of the town. For prime fish and chips head to the Magpie Cafe in Whitby which is renowned (so start queuing early) and there are many fine dining seafood restaurants, cafes and gift shops to be found here.

So, if you're looking for a pretty and quiet site with great coastal views and don't want to have to drive again, then there are lots of things to do in the area. Whitby is an engagingly pretty and interesting town with lots going on. It also has a station where you can catch a steam train over the Yorkshire moors and explore some of the great walking country of one of the UK's National Parks.
