Skelwith Fold Caravan Park

f1ccb8ae-86cd-4a7f-abcb-c91a1dca0b85
The minute you turn into the entrance of Skelwith Fold Caravan Park you know you’re about to enjoy an amazing holiday.

The drive leading down to the park can only be described as a tree-lined natural haven. With forest glades on either side and 130 acres of woodland to explore it’s no wonder they have a David Bellamy Gold Conservation Award under their belt. Common wildlife visitors include red deer, red squirrels and badgers. In fact during our stay we opened up the door to our ‘van one morning to see a baby deer peeping out of the undergrowth.

The MMM Premier Park is set in the grounds of a former mansion and provides pitches for tourers or the opportunity to own a private caravan holiday home so you can enjoy the delights of this area as often as you like. For tourers the pitches are all hardstanding, have hook-ups and enjoy views to the bordering woodland. Premium pitches benefit from extra space, water drainage and TV hook-up. Facilities on-site include toilets, washrooms and showers, a laundry, library and internet access. There’s a village-style shop providing all you could want and more. For children there’s an adventure playground and all the surrounding woodland for adventures a-plenty.

The holiday homes to buy are all new and luxurious to say the least. Little touches make it
like a home from home - swivel armchairs, en suite bathroom, full size bath, under cupboard lighting in the kitchen, walk in wardrobe, the list is endless! Plus all the usual things you would expect including a cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer and central heating. The living area has French doors out onto a small veranda, and even arriving in the rain, the view from the prime hillside location immediately told the mind and body to let the relaxation begin. At all times of day there is an air of tranquillity and calm here. A back to nature feel. Everywhere you look the land is green and you can see for miles.

As well as the labyrinth of paths leading from the park through the trees there are as many delightful walks down weaving country lanes, where the views across the countryside to the hills beyond can only be described as breath-taking. One such walk leads nicely to the local pub, which serves a lovely meal and is located next to the riverside. The town of Ambleside is just over a mile from Skelwith Fold and offers a variety of local shops and places to eat, as well as a petrol station and some high street shops.

The Lake District has glorious sights in abundance. The obvious places to visit are Lake Windermere and Ullswater where activities include watersports, cycling, fishing and adventure days, which can be booked locally. Bowness is a busy little town situated right on Lake Windermere and makes for a good tourist hotspot. Some of the lesser known, but equally as beautiful places to visit would be Rydal Water and Caves. White Moss has its own car park with walks of varying difficulty for every level of fitness. Walks lead to the river, round the lake, to the caves, through woodland and for those who fancy being ‘on top of the world’, a 1,500ft ascent to the top of Nab Scar. The panoramic view from the top is worth the effort.

The area surrounding Skelwith Fold is stunningly beautiful and one visit to this immaculate
park quite simply isn’t enough. There’s so much to see and do you will want to visit time and time again - one trip just to explore all that the park has to offer, as you will struggle to leave this peaceful haven, and another trip for when the call of The Lakes lures you.
