Norden Farm, Dorset campsite review

fa070ecb-8949-43bc-867c-60c4d3fb2151
This is one of my favourite campsites. Normally I like everything luxurious, but there is something about Norden Farm’s rural charm that draws me in each time I visit. That’s not to say this is a no-frills site. There’s a modern amenities block, a family room, a motorhome service point, laundry and well-stocked shop.

But I like it for its unusual extras. There’s a host of farm animals – cows, sheep (and when I last visited, very cute calves and lambs!), chickens, and my personal favourite, the peacocks with their glorious colours. There’s also a plant sales area, which makes me feel like I’ve stumbled onto a lovely little garden centre.

Pitches are arranged on three open grass fields, which are bordered by trees giving a feeling of detraction from the outside world. There’s plenty of open space for children, a play area and a small fishing pond for exclusive use of campsite guests.

During my most recent visit, the campsite’s shop was undergoing major refurbishment, and this now is a huge building stocking all manner of items from basic essentials to gifts, country clothing and toys.

While pitched at Norden Farm, I’d recommend taking a walk into the charming village of Corfe Castle which is only three-quarters-of-a-mile away. Famous for the ruins of the 1,000-year-old fortress, which commands a towering presence overlooking the village, it really is a must see, especially for the panoramic views from the castle’s hilltop location.

A final comment about Norden Farm – when you first drive past the farm buildings towards your pitch, you could be forgiven for thinking you’ve made a mistake, but don’t be put off. This is primarily a working farm, after all. Once pitched up with the glorious Dorset countryside all around you, you’ll know you’re in for a great holiday.

Nearby Corfe Castle is definitely worth a visit
