Cloud Farm Camping Site

b4b3574a-9c76-4940-86e6-bbc335d646fc
WHAT better place to finish off a look at autumn camping than on the rolling moorland of Exmoor. Thoughts of the rugged North Devon coastline and heather covered moors spring to mind. So, how about trying the ever popular all year round site of Cloud Farm set in the very heart of the Doone Valley and surrounded by the countryside made famous by R.D. Blackmore in his famous novel Lorna Doone?

The site has an enchanting riverside setting on the flat bottom of a steep-sided and narrow valley and is a wonderful location for people who want to tour the coast and moors of Exmoor, walk the many routes around the area or just sit back and soak in the wonderful scenery.

Cloud Farm is ideally situated for a late season break and the trees dotted around the valley give good autumn colour, which is backed by the bracken on the moors above. Local towns such as Porlock, Lynton and Lynmouth give plenty to do if the late season weather is a bit poor or you just fancy driving towards the coast. For walkers or mountain bikers, Exmoor, and the nearby Brendon Hills, have endless possibilities so bring your boots and outdoor gear and take a final opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors before winter starts to set in.

This is a very busy site and even off-season a period of good weather will often see its numerous regulars heading back to it for another weekend.

Cloud Farm is a decent sized site that prides itself on being peaceful and family orientated. It doesn’t have many  hook-ups and doesn’t take advance bookings, so you need to arrive early if you need one. The lovely river is shallow with odd deep pools and pitches near it fill up quickly with families who have kids. An air of tranquillity surrounds the site as a whole. The toilet and unisex shower facilities are kept clean and tidy and were re-furbished in 2010 . There is also a utility washing area, which includes launderette facilities and a fridge/freezer. Dogs are welcome but are expected to be kept under control at all times. Campfires are allowed as long as they don’t get out of hand. There is also a tea room where you can get a full English breakfast and a shop selling food and camping odds and ends, as well as children’s toys and fishing nets for the river. You can also buy gas at the shop. It’s worth noting that the site does charge a supplement for very large tents. The ground at Cloud Farm can be hard and a bit rocky so take strong pegs in case you have trouble getting standard ones in.
