Camping Moulin de Campech

5bcef762-6086-4496-9e77-41dcb324a975
Set in Landes in Aquitaine, this laid-back site is built around a 16th century water mill, which is located next to a fishing lake. This is stocked with trout. There's also the River Ourbise running nearby. Housed in the restored mill is a bar and restaurant, with an outside terraced area overlooking the fishing lake. An outdoor heated pool is set to one side. There are pitches, with 6 amp hook-ups, and these are of a good size and available in either full sun or full shade, depending on your preference. There are two golf course within a 15-minute drive, plus horse riding and a lake beach.

Set around 150 miles to the south of Bordeaux, Camping Moulin de Campech is located in the department of landes in Aquitaine and offers 60 pitches set in the grounds of a restored 16th century watermill. All of these pitches are said to be of a larger than average size for a french campsite and are available with 6 amp electric hook ups. All are flat grassed pitches and are offered in either full sun or full shade (amidst mature trees) depending on your preference. They're accessed via firm tracks between the trees.

There's a toilet and shower block nearby to service all pitches and this has English-style toilets, showers and washbasins. Pleasingly you don't need any coins to use the hot water. The laundry facilities consist of a washing machine and tumble dryer.

The historic watermill has been fully restored and now houses the bar and restaurant. This offers hot and cold food, as well as a good selection of wines, beers and spirits. There's an indoor dining area, as well as an outdoor terrace that overlooks the lake. The fishing lake is stocked with trout and campers get discounted rates.

Also on site is a heated outdoor pool (open from the beginning of May to the end of September) that's perfect for a relaxing dip and is surrounded by sunloungers.

The site additionally offers caravan storage, with two packages offered: one combined deal that includes 60 days of holiday time and one that offers storage on its own. The rates are very reasonable, so it's well worth enquiring about this.

It's also worth noting that the site offers large family-sized pre-erected tents for hire. These are ideal for extra family or if you don't fancy driving down with a caravan or motorhome.

Off site, there's lots to do in the area, with two golf courses being within a 15-minute drive of the site. It's also well placed for enjoying a cycling holiday (so bring your bike!) and there are many historic towns in the area to have a pedal around. With frequent markets offering local produce, wine, armagnac caves and many chateaux, you'll not be short of things to put in your pannier, either.
