Great gear for National Picnic Week
If you’re hoping to celebrate the summer's arrival by setting up in a peaceful spot for a relaxing picnic this week, here’s some picnicware and outdoor dining accessories that’ll perhaps set you up for your best picnic yet…
Oliver Bonas Strawberry Picnic Blanket

Berry excited to go on your next picnic? OK, we agree that was a bit rubbish. To be fair, we would be 'berry' excited to go on a picnic with this strawberry-print picnic blanket. This square, waterproof-backed picnic rug measures 150cm by 150cm, fastens together easily and features carry handles for easy transport.
Sophie Allport Rose melamine picnicware

Lincolnshire-based designer, Sophie Allport, is known for her delicate, classic designs and the new Rose collection, inspired by Sophie’s own rose garden, could be the perfect addition to a good old British picnic this summer. Featuring crisp white roses against a sage-green background, the 100% melamine range includes a bowl, side plate, dinner plate and beaker, which are all dishwasher safe.
Price: from £7.50
Super Sparrow Explore
Available in 350ml, 500ml and 750ml sizes, and in a variety of pattens depicting different outdoor activities (we chose one with a hiker), the new Explore range from Super Sparrow is made from premium food-grade stainless steel. Its new construction is claimed to reduce weight by 25% (great when hiking, appropriately), and yet, despite weighing just 337g, it can keep cold drinks cold for 24 hours and your cappuccino suitably hot for half as long. We’ve gone for the version with the straw lid, which is super-easy to drink from when you’re in a hurry and have just one hand free. The hook handle on the lid makes it easy to carry if you’re not using a rucksack, too. All in all, a great addition to our gear.
Tweedmill Polo Picnic Rug

Add a little luxury to your picnic with this pure wool rug, which features waterproof backing and leather straps. Woven in north Wales by Tweedmill, this picnic rug has a vintage herringbone design and measures 183cm by 150cm.
Dometic CFF12 Portable Electric Cooler
Dometic has upgraded its portable electric cooler with a modern design and an 18% increase in volume. Small enough to fit between the front seats in a campervan or motorhome or inside a normal car, it’s now got a 13-litre capacity and is large enough to hold 20 drink cans, along with a detachable cup holder and a hidden storage compartment to stash your valuables. The handy shoulder strap means it’s easy enough to carry around, too.
Easy Camp Camp Shelter
One thing you can never be sure of in Britain is the weather – even the sunniest morning can quickly turn into the drizzliest afternoon. But don’t let that stop you enjoying a family picnic! Simply pop up a shelter and hey presto, let the picnic continue! We love the versatility of the new Camp Shelter from Scandi brand, Easy Camp, which has taken the beloved gazebo and added a waterproof rear tent that can be used for storage, or even a little snooze. Made from PU-coated polyester, the Camp Shelter weighs 12kg and packs down to a transportable 66cm by 22cm. Detach the six-person rear tent and the shelter provides the perfect picnic spot for inclement weather.
Marks & Spencer Floral Picnic Dinner Plates
(Photo courtesy of Marks & Spencer)
Made from durable melamine, this set of four dinner plates are stain-resistant and dishwasher safe. If picnic coordination is your thing, the bold floral design is also available on matching side plates, pasta bowls, cereal bowls and drinks tumblers in varying sizes.

Take your picnic to new icy-cool heights with the EcoFlow Glacier, which claims to be the world’s first portable fridge/freezer with a built-in ice maker and 298Wh plug-in battery. It delivers up to 40 hours of refrigeration and 19 hours of freezing on a single charge, and is said to produce 18 ice cubes in 12 minutes – impressive. But all that must come at a cost when it comes to transporting your bevvies around, right? Actually, not so much – the Glacier has two handles and wheels for easy portability, and measures 84.5cm by 38.5cm by 44.5cm, handles and wheels included, but it does weigh in at just over 23kg so factor that in if you’ve got payload to consider.
Kelty Camp Galley Deluxe
The Camp Galley Deluxe is designed for a family of four with space to house plates and cutlery for all. With a number of zipped pockets, there’s space for utensils, as well as a chopping board, scourer, etc. A string underneath means you can hang a kitchen roll or tea towel, too. A pair of straps with clips at the top mean it can be hung up anywhere, so the Camp Galley Deluxe can be used inside or outside. When not in use, the whole thing zips up into a cube, so it’s easy to store, too.
Light My Fire Outdoor Meal Kit
(Photo courtesy of Light My Fire)
Made from 100% BPA-free biobased plastics, this eight-piece meal kit from Swedish brand, Light My Fire, contains everything you need for a meal in the great outdoors. The stackable kit nestles neatly together, secured by a strap harness, and contains a cutting board/strainer, a bowl and lid/plate, Swedish kå sa (think handy little bowl with a handle), two sporks and a SnapBox storage container. The whole kit is dishwasher and microwave safe, and comes in a range of different colours (pictured here in Sandy Green).
Mnched travel cutlery

We all have a favourite mug – you know, the one where the tea just tastes that little bit better – but what about a favourite cutlery set? We think we might have one now... Available in six designs, this full-sized stainless-steel travel cutlery set from Mnched contains a knife, fork, spoon and collapsible drinking straw, carried neatly around in its very own sturdy travel case. The set is dishwasher safe and contains no nasties such as BPA, BPS and phthalates.
Outwell Galtymore Chair
Outwell’s Galtymore is the latest addition to the brand’s Compact range, which aims to balance low weight and small packed sizes with ultimate comfort. The low-backed 100% polyester Galtymore is great for dining, with a more upright posture and a seat height of 46cm. It weighs just 2.5kg and packs down to a rather small 13cm by 15cm by 50cm, carrybag included.
Sophie Allport Knitted Picnic Blanket
Part of Sophie Allport’s new Animals of the Savannah range, which supports the work of the Zoological Society of London, this knitted picnic blanket features a delicate design of giraffes, elephants, cheetahs, zebras and flamingos on a sandy-coloured background. The water-resistant backing can be put onto wet ground, while the faux leather carry straps make it easy to carry around. It measures 145cm by 145cm so a decent size for the whole family, too.
Regatta Matio Picnic Rug
This roll-away picnic rug is made from soft-brushed polyester, with a mid-foam layer for added comfort and a hardwearing PEVA base. It measures 150cm by 135cm and, for the price (currently £11.15 in the Regatta sale), you really can’t go wrong.
Price: RRP £28
Three Rivers 4 Person Picnic Basket

If romantic picnics by the sea are on the agenda this summer, take a look at this Three Rivers 4 Person Picnic Basket. This traditional picnic set combines a wicker basket with a coastal-inspired white and navy stripe fabric – perfect for picnics on the beach this summer. It provides eight litres of food storage, alongside four ceramic plates, four acrylic wine glasses, four stainless-steel sporks and a handy bottle opener. Plus, the white PEVA heat-sealed lining allows any spillages to be easily cleaned away.
