Looking for a lightweight shoe that’s as at home on a hike as it is pounding the pavement? The new Ground Attack from Berghaus looks like a trainer, but with all the performance you’d expect from a hiking shoe. Designed for year-round use, the waterproof yet breathable Gore-Tex lining will keep feet dry in inclement weather, while the comfy OrthoLite footbed provides extra cushioning.

Berghaus’ clever OptiStud Vibram outsole also provides maximum grip, with larger studs that take the force of impact on harsh terrain and smaller studs that push into the ground for extra support.

Jack Wolfskin Aerorise Carry System

We’re probably all familiar with the back pain that often descends after carrying a heavy backpack around all day, but that could now be a thing of the past thanks to Jack Wolfskin’s futuristic new carry system... With four 3D-printed zonal cushioning panels on the shoulders and lumbar areas, the new Aerorise range has been designed with ultimate comfort in mind.

The innovative lattice structure of the panels enhances ventilation – it’s said to reduce back temperatures by up to 5 degrees – and improves load control, even with heavier loads. It’s available in three sizes: 20L (£320), 30L (£340) and 40L (£400).

Keela Men’s Hydron Jacket

We tested this Keela jacket in ‘moss’ which is basically khaki and as such, is perfect for hiding out on the hills or doing some birdwatching. It feels lovely and soft, allowing for plenty of movement but still keeps you warm and dry.

The AirXtream Fusion fabric is constructed in a way that allows for plenty of ventilation and wicks moisture away from the body. We’ve worn it in the pouring rain, too, and felt perfectly protected. Being lightweight makes it easy to stow in your rucksack too, should you get too hot.

Kikkerland Knot Game

If there’s one thing us campers should know, it’s how to tie a good knot. Well now you can put your dad’s skills to the test with this fab little game from Kikkerland. Challenge him to tie over 20 different knots against the clock in a game that’ll have him practicing his knot-tying skills with improved speed and accuracy, while also, perhaps, teaching him a new knot or two! It’s suitable for ages over eight, and we’d say it’s the perfect way to tie up your dad's free time (sorry!)...

A small but powerful torch is certainly a camping essential – handy whether you’re searching for something lost in the deep crevices of a bag or cupboard, need to do a little engine tinkering, or even for late-night dashes across a campsite. And they don’t get much handier than this new rechargeable pen light from Laser Tools.

Combining a 2W COB work lamp with a 2W LED torch, the pen light is made from durable adonised aluminium and features a magnetic base and a pocket clip. The LED light offers 150 lumens, while the work lamp has two settings: high (170 lumens) or low (80 lumens). Powered by a built-in 3.7V 750mAh Li-ion battery, it takes around 2.5 to three hours to charge via a USB (charging cable included), and the charge lasts for around two to four hours.

The campsite can be a wonderful place, full of joyful laughter and bustling family gatherings, pets included, but there does come a time of night when it might all get a little much. If your dad struggles to shut out all of that exterior noise when his head hits the pillow, take a look at the new Quiet ear plugs from Loop.

Made from flexible soft-touch silicone and with four interchangeable ear tip sizes, the ear plugs promise up to 27dB of noise reduction. They’re available in a whole range of colours, including some bright and funky options in the Solstice collection.

Super Sparrow Explore

Super Sparrow Explore

If your dad struggles to stay hydrated when out and about, the new Explore range from Super Sparrow could make the perfect gift. Available in 350ml, 500ml and 750ml sizes, and in a variety of pattens depicting different outdoor activities (the one we tested shows a hiker), this bottle is made from premium food-grade stainless steel.

Its new construction is claimed to reduce weight by 25% (great when hiking, appropriately) and yet, despite weighing just 337g, it can keep cold drinks cold for 24 hours and your cappuccino suitably hot for half as long. We’ve gone for the version with the straw lid, which is super-easy to drink from when you’re in a hurry and have just one hand free. The hook handle on the lid makes it easy to carry if you’re not using a rucksack, too. All in all, a great addition to our gear.

Does your dad fancy himself as a bit of a surfer dude? He'll probably love the new Saturn collection from Quiksilver. Inspired by early noughties trends and featuring bold primary colours and classic graphics, the men’s collection includes cargo-cut shorts, 20in boardshorts made from Quiksilver’s sustainable SurfSilk fabric, swim shorts, wetsuits, sandals, elasticated shorts and trousers, short-sleeve shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts and half-zip fleeces.

We reckon this sweatshirt would be a hit with most dads - a quick an easy item to throw on if the weather takes a turn.
