Celebrate the King’s Coronation in style

6ce7e224-5a8e-4b00-894b-7bda287bf075

Make no bones about it, royalist or not, the coronation of a monarch is a big deal, whether you like a bit of pomp, have a special weekend away in the tent, caravan or campervan planned, or are just looking forward to the day off

The last one produced a whole array of celebratory goodies that can still be found in auctions and possibly charity shops today. However, they seem to be a bit few and far between this time around, so we’ve scoured the shops to find a few bits to help you celebrate the King's Coronation on 6 May, 2023, and perhaps keep for many years to come…

Sometimes we may include links to online retailers, from which we might receive a small thank-you commission if you make a purchase.

Most of us will have some sort of celebratory tea towel stashed at the back of the drawer, but this one is such a lovely design that it can take pride of place in your kitchen at home or in the motorhome, caravan or tent.

In hues of green, the towel’s hand-drawn design bears the UK’s national flowers alongside oak – a symbol of strength – and ivy – a symbol of commitment, plus the eagle, swords and anchor (a nod to the British Armed Forces), a parachute, pens and paintbrushes (representing the King’s support of the arts, young people and his commitment to environmental activism).

It’s the 470ml direct drink version which will keep drinks hot for up to 10 hours (how long you may be watching TV if you’re fully committed – although the ceremony may only be about three hours long, the build-up will likely be extensive), or cold for up to 24 hours.

Top Trumps Kings and Queens

If you grew up in the 80s or 90s then you’ll know all about Top Trumps, where you trump other players' cards with yours and take the hand. The winner is the person with all the cards at the end.

This Kings and Queens edition now includes Charles III, but, if you love a bit of history, these monarchs go all the way back to the Middle Ages. Play by age, years of reign, number of children, military might and an overall rating – remember, the highest value wins.

It’s the perfect card game for Coronation day on the campsite, as it doesn’t take up a lot of space so you can devote the table to your celebratory picnic or feast.
