Campsite review: Silvercraigs Caravan Park

Introduction to Silvercraigs Caravan Park
Silvercraigs Caravan Park at Kirkcudbright sits above the town and combines all those local amenities with the added bonus of Barrhill Woods if you fancy a short stroll.
We booked the site online, choosing our pitch, and received an email with all the information we needed to get through the barrier, access the sanitary block and sign into the WiFi, so we didn’t need to arrive while reception was open.

What the campsite has to offer
The campsite has hardstanding pitches, spaces for tents, and is kept tidy with a spotlessly clean facilities block and launderette.
Where to visit

Kirkcudbright has more museums than many larger towns and we only managed to visit two of the three! Kirkcudbright Galleries had the Galloway Hoard on display and we would have been foolish not to see this collection of Viking treasure.
Sauntering from the harbour in Kirkcudbright we passed the sixteenth century MacLellan’s Castle and explored some of Kirkcudbright’s streets of colourfully painted houses. On previous trips we have visited the National Trust for Scotland’s Broughton House and Garden. This elegant Edwardian house was home to one of Kirkcudbright’s many artists and has a Japanese-inspired garden that is planted for year-round interest.
After buying cakes for later from one of the town bakeries, we had lunch in an excellent café. Fuelled by tea and cheese toasties, we followed one of the many walks that can be downloaded from dumfries-and-galloway.co.uk
Along the shore we stopped often to watch the birds feeding on the salt marsh and mudflats. After climbing up the hill behind Kirkcudbright we made our way through Barrhill Woods to the campsite to enjoy well-earned tea and cake back at our campervan.
