Tour de France 2014 - campsites mapped

30505bfb-68e7-44a4-8182-cbb0624b7349

The Tour de France is a sporting event like no other, and in 2014 it holds its three opening stages in England.

Race organisers and police estimate that as many as one million people may turn up each day to watch this unique sporting spectacle as it passes through Yorkshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, and London, meaning that finding a place to spectate from could be quite a problem.

Roads will be closed to allow the race to proceed, and so many Tour fans will be seeking a pitch for their tent, caravan, or motorhome along the route. There are dozens of campsites available, both established and new temporary (or 'pop-up') sites.

Some campsites are fully booked – we know of one that was booked out a whole year in advance – but others still have vacancies. Indeed, by March 2014, we'd begun to hear of pitch fees being lowered – presumably because they hadn't been filling up quite as fast as some landowners had hoped.

Here at Campsite Finder we've got two ways to help you find a campsite pitch for the 2014 Tour de France in the UK. Since the beginning of the year, we've been maintaining a list of all the campsites we know about that still have vacancies. This is a simple chronological listing, and you can find it here.

Now we've partnered with Salop Leisure to produce an interactive map of campsites along the three UK stages of the Tour. Using the map below, you can zoom in to the area you wish to camp and identify the campsites that might be suitable. Routes of the three Tour de France stages are shown in red. Cross reference to our listing page to see if pitches might be available.

The 2014 Tour de France promises some spectacular action in its UK stages, which are a rare opportunity for people in Britain to gain a taste of the passion and excitement this race raises annually in Europe. Happy camping!
