Is this the world's first camping themed restaurant?

With tent-inspired decor, lanterns on each table and hearty, outdoorsy food on the menu, a new restaurant is pitching for the sort of nostalgic, family atmosphere loved by campers.

Camp Social's motto is “Home is where you park it” and the owners reckon they can provide all the fun of the campsite without leaving you smelling like a campfire.

As soon as they walk through the front door, diners are greeted by the "Happy" camper – it’s a converted caravan selling a range of Camp Social merch.

Inside the dining room, the walls are decorated with images of tents and campfires to help create the outdoors atmosphere.

A wooden canoe is suspended from the ceiling above the restaurant and each table has its own red camping lantern and a little caravan-shaped condiment carrier.

Drinks, including s'mores flavoured concoctions, are served up in tartan Thermos flasks. Or you can enjoy a flaming campfire cocktail.

The barstools here are a little different. Instead of being perched on a high stool, drinkers plonk themselves on tyre swings that hang from the top of the bar.

Traditional games like skee-ball and shuffleboard, amongst others are designed to keep the kids happy and like all the best campsites, Camp Social has an arcade game room in the back.

The menu – or “trail snacks” – is outdoors-themed here too. Hobo stew is served in a Mason jar as a starter. Camp Social’s pizzas are named after US national parks and are themed around each park – including alligator sausage on an Everglades-inspired pizza

Sadly, Camp Social is in Phoenix, Arizona in the USA but maybe one day it will make it across the Atlantic – or some enterprising British restaurateur will come with their own version here.

“It’s really taken on a life of its own,” general manager Anthony Georgoulis told a local newspaper. “The theme is camping, but the culture and concept is still ‘great food, great drink.’ It’s high-quality but an homage to camping and the outdoors”
