Crowd-funded all-terrain bag launched

980822a6-4b29-411f-bec1-4ca5fbe8ac93

Leading London-based product design consultants, Therefore, has teamed up with HandiWorld Ltd to create the world’s first all-terrain holdall called Trailpod. This is a go-anywhere, adaptable holdall with ingenious all-terrain wheels, was designed around the real world environment of gravel, grass, mud, sand and steps.

Traditional bags have hard, skinny wheels, like a road bike, and they simply don’t perform off-road. With performance more akin to a mountain bike, Trailpod takes rough terrain in its stride.

Trailpod has been developed to help people enjoy life’s outdoor adventures to the full allowing them to take everything that they need to explore, socialise and relax. With its strong exoskeleton structure with three rugged wheels and a modular bag system, the Trailpod will adapt to any activity.

At the heart of Trailpod is a reinforced polymer exoskeletal structure, big enough to swallow up 60-litres of gear and strong enough to sit on. The handle folds down to provide cup holders, or a very convenient seat!

The modular bag system has been developed to clip into the frame, providing more packing options enabling Trailpod to be adapted to people’s lifestyles. Trailpod incorporates a removable cool bag for food and drink, which doubles as a general storage compartment. There’s also a multi-pocketed bag for mobiles, tablets etc., plus adjustable netting for loose items or for when wet clothes need to be separated from the dry.

Versatile Bag System

The large 60-litre storage capacity includes removable bags and netting compartments to carry everything that’s needed, with plenty of versatile packing options to accommodate the perpetual ‘one last thing’. The handle rotates, meaning no more awkward wrist strain caused by unstable two-wheeled bags, and it can also be folded down. To add to the compactness, the frame is collapsible so that Trailpod fits neatly in the car as well as at home.

Trailpod uses patented Camba wheel technology that combines a hemi-spherical wheel and a ‘floating’ independent axle system. Unlike standard bags, Trailpod has three big wheels - not two small ones. The third wheel keeps Trailpod stable and always ready to roll as the frame rotates to cope with more challenging obstacles in its path. The floating axles allow the wheels to navigate across objects that smaller fixed axles fail to manage. The footprint of the hemi-spherical wheels spreads the load so they don’t sink or dig into soft surfaces. Trailpod is at home on grass and gravel, as well as concrete and sand.

The Trailpod was launched through the crowd funding site Indiegogo on Monday 2 November. $150,000.00 of funding is being sought to bring the product to market with the first Trailpods due to be delivered in August 2016.

The MRSP of the Trailpod is $249.00, with ‘early bird’ offers available to supporters of the Indiegogo campaign starting at $149.00.
