CAMPERS can sit back and relax safe in the knowledge that campsite toilets are some of the best in the country.

It is a fact that campers will often choose their campsite by the state of its washblock. And, campsites figure highly in the winners’ list of the 2007 Loo of the Year Awards.

The Loo of the Year Awards has a simple objective – to encourage the highest possible standards in all types of ‘away from home’ or public toilets. Toilets are checked for a number of criteria that include maintenance, air and equipment quality, management, accessibility and extras.

The Camping and Caravanning Club saw 20 of its sites awarded five stars for their quality. This, and the fact that the Club shows it can maintain consistently high standards, has placed it with 24 other organisations in the 2007 Champions League – Standards of Excellence Awards.

In the Major National Award category, the Family Friendly, England, award also went to The Camping and Caravanning Club’s Kessingland site.

Pencelli Castle Caravan and Camping Park took the Individual, Wales, category and was Welsh National Category winner in the Camping and Touring or Static Caravan Sites category. Other winners were The Camping and Caravanning Club sites at Folkestone and Glencoe, and Kilbroney Caravan Park in Newry.
