Alton Towers campsite 'will provide tourism boost'
Viscountess Cobham made the predicition as she officially opened the Star Club site on the doorstep of the theme park.
The site, which was previously privately-owned, boasts 195 pitches across two fields, as well as 58 caravan holiday homes.
It is just over a mile from the Alton Towers resort, the UK's most visited theme park.
Lady Cobham said: "What is of paramount importance is the quality of our tourism offering. I am sure that Alton, The Star Club Site, will be a great addition to the Camping and Caravanning Club's network and for tourism within the area."
David James, chief executive of Visit Peak District and Derbyshire, added: "This is fantastic news for tourism in the area, given its prime location right next to one of Europe's leading tourist attractions."
Camping and Caravanning Club director general Robert Louden predicted strong visitor numbers to the site.
He said: "With the weak pound, along with the warm start to the year, we are anticipating that more people will again stay closer to home to enjoy their time off this year."
