Hendra Holiday Park celebrates 50 years
Newquay-based Hendra Holiday Park, one of 100 exclusive Premier Parks sites, is celebrating its fiftieth anniversary
When it opened in 1972, Hendra Holiday Park simply offered a touring site, outdoor pool and entertainment venue spread across 35 acres of land.
Today, the family-owned park — which is now being run by its third generation — is Europe’s largest touring park, offering over 500 touring pitches, over 300 holiday homes and lodges, and welcoming around 80,000 visitors a year.
The park, which employs 240 staff, has invested over £15 million in the last decade, and now offers a range of facilities including a sauna, sports shop, nursery, indoor soft play, outdoor play park, hairdressers, cocktail bar, teenage disco, crazy golf and trampolines. The Oasis Fun Pools opened in 2000, and is still one of the largest water complexes in the southwest, welcoming guests and locals alike.
To mark its fiftieth birthday celebrations, Hendra has partnered with a selection of local Cornish businesses to create a range of anniversary products that can be bought on the campsite throughout the season, including Tarquin’s Gin, Josh’s Chocolate and an anniversary pale ale with St Austell Brewery.
This year, there will also be special appearances from Peppa Pig, life-sized dinosaurs and Hendra’s hippo mascots, plus fireworks displays and fiftieth-themed game shows.
