Herefordshire holiday park donates to local food bank

Pearl Lake Country Holiday Park, in Shobdon, has donated £895 to Leominster Food Bank, together with food donated by its holiday home owners

The holiday home and touring park, which is one of three in the Discover Parks group, raised the funds by holding a New Year’s Eve ball, attended by over 100 people. All takings from the holiday park’s bar and bistro during the event were donated to the food bank.

Glenn Jones, owner and MD of the Discover Parks group, says,

We organise a range of charity events throughout the year, but this was the first large-scale New Year’s Eve event since 2019 due to the Covid pandemic, so we felt it was a great opportunity to donate all the takings to charity this year.

With the rising cost of living, our team, together with holiday home owners at the park, voted to support a local charity and Leominster Food Bank was the obvious choice. This also went hand in hand with our ongoing support of the food bank where we encourage our holiday home owners to donate dry food supplies and tins from their holiday home stores throughout the season.

Leominster Food Bank has seen demand double in the last 12 months, with 50 to 100 people visiting each of its twice-weekly sessions.

Kathy Bland, from Leominster Food Bank, says,

We used to rely wholly on donated food, but we now have to shop several times a week to ensure supplies are sufficient for the growing need. This is why financial donations are so important and we were delighted to receive the donation from Discover Parks.
