To keep costs down it’s well worth considering a traditional poled tent rather than an inflatable. While air tents score highly for convenience, there's still a big difference in price between the two styles. You can pay up to £300 less for a tent with fibreglass supports instead of air-filled tubes – even though the tent is otherwise identical.

The Camp Star 600 DT is a great example. It is one of four new poled models based on the company’s award-winning Camp Star air tent range, and is for sale at £549 – a great price for a six-berth tent of this quality. The strengthened, Dura-Tech fibreglass poles and durable polyester flysheet mean you should be able to trust the tent to perform in the stormiest of weather.

The main lounge area offers plenty of space for furniture and the enclosed front porch provides extra living or storage space. You can roll back the door to create a covered, al fresco cooking and dining area.

Our verdict

Bright and airy, the Alicante is a great value option if you are planning a family camping trip to sunnier climes this summer. The spacious living room leads to two separate bedroom pods at the rear, which provide privacy and personal space alongside the communal area.

Our verdict

For value for money this compact four-berth weekend tent is hard to beat. As well as the multi-use front door, it also has a rear entrance that provides extra ventilation and leads to dedicated rear storage space. Inside, there’s generous headroom throughout and the bedroom’s darkened fabric should ensure a good night’s sleep.
