Why the Quechua Airseconds Trailer Tent 4.2?

Quechua – the family camping brand of French retail giant, Decathlon – has an impressive track record of developing new products that are both innovative and affordable, and this is another excellent example.

We visited the Quechua HQ in France last year, and saw at first hand how the company’s product development process works. It all starts with an idea and a purpose, and, in this case, it was to design an innovative trailer tent that was inflatable, easy to assemble and equipped with Fresh&Black temperature-regulating technology.

The Quechua designers teamed up with French trailer manufacturer, Erdé, to develop the product and they have come up with something we think is pretty impressive. It’s easy to tow and takes around 45 minutes to fully set up, with capacity for four people in two raised bedrooms located in the trailer section. In addition, there’s a huge living space, which inflates like a tent.

Features include a zipped-in groundsheet, two PVC windows with curtains, four mosquito net windows, two flexible storage cabinets, clothes lines and lantern hooks. The Fresh&Black technology is designed to keep the tent cool and dark inside by reflecting the sun’s rays and insulating from the light.

You can also use the trailer for other purposes by removing the tent completely – an ‘unloading kit’ with a storage sheet and wheels is available separately.

The trailer tent is currently only available online through decathlon.co.uk and is priced at just under £10k. Clearly that’s more expensive than a normal tent but it’s also a lot cheaper than a caravan and it’s a great option if you want more comfort and space but aren’t quite ready to resign yourself to holidays in a white metal box on wheels!

We like

  • Compact trailer
  • Easy to tow
  • Inflatable structure
