As the name would suggest, this is a spacious tent – potentially big enough for four adults – but relatively lightweight. At 62kg, it’s not much heavier than a large family tent and it frees up your boot for camping gear, meaning no trailer is required.

The mattress is comfortable, and the skylight and mesh-backed windows give great 360-degree views (depending on where you’re pitched, of course). There are also storage pockets for stashing small items like phones and watches.

Our verdict

Hard shell roof tents like this are becoming increasingly popular among campers. They are made with a sturdy outer shell designed to withstand harsh weather conditions and protect you and your tent from the elements. Some models can be more difficult to set up and take down, but the Alu Khosi is exceptionally easy.

Our verdict

Comfortable enough for two adults and perhaps a couple of small kids, the TT-01 Ultralite is designed for small cars and vans and boasts an extra-low profile. The polycotton, ripstop canvas is cool in hot weather and keeps the heat in when it’s cold outside. Windows are fitted with mesh to keep bugs out and you can watch the stars through the skylight.
