Introduction

Willerby is Britain’s largest manufacturer of holiday homes and lodges. Among the company’s extensive portfolio of leisure homes are five lodges; three of them are reviewed here. From super-modern, to classic styling, from affordability with lots of options, to luxury, it’s all here…

Willerby Hayward

The Willerby Hayward

This lodge has been specifcally designed for first-time lodge buyers and, in particular, for shared purchase; for example, between two generations, or siblings and their families. For this reason, there’s a choice of three layouts, one of which has four bedrooms.

Another key element of the Hayward lodge is that a range of options is available, so that you can choose what’s important to you, and leave out what isn’t. That way, you can tailor your Hayward to your budget and your needs. The layout is basically open-plan but with a twist: the large dining area is in its own zone, alongside the kitchen. Dining seating is bench-style, with a high-backed bench forming a clear border between the kitchen and dining areas.

The kitchen is huge, with units and work surface arranged in an L-shape, and the oven housed along with cabinets in a separate area. In between the two is the island unit. Stools are an option, so that you can use it as a breakfast bar. Other options include a dishwasher, a washing machine, a microwave, and a king-size bed instead of a double. You can go for a sofa with a pull-out bed in the lounge. You can choose a shower instead of a bath in the family bathroom. And a lighting pack adds plinth and under-cabinet lights to the kitchen.

There are exterior cladding options, too, and you can choose to have your Hayward on a chassis that’s fully galvanised, so well protected from corrosion (especially important if you are siting it near to a coast). A double bed instead of twin beds is an option in one of the bedrooms (excluding the four-bedroom model). More optional features include brushed chrome sockets and switches, a footstool with a lift-up lid that reveals a storage area for the lounge, and soft-close hinge mechanisms throughout the lodge.

In the two-bedroom Hayward the main bedroom is a spacious delight. The corridor leading from the bedroom to the en suite shower room houses a walk-in wardrobe that’s just large enough to be a dressing room. Two rail areas, two large shelf areas, three drawers and a cabinet offer ample storage. The twin room is larger than you’d expect to find as a second bedroom. Beds are full domestic width.

In addition to the two-bedroom version, and the four-bedroom layout, there is also one with three bedrooms. All are 40ft by 20ft.

Willerby Mapleton

The Willerby Mapleton

A stunning combination of rustic style elements and cool modern shades characterises the luxury Mapleton lodge. A part wall finished in horizontally aligned pieces of wood, in shades ranging from peach to cream, a large panel (your television location) composed of vertically aligned slightly distressed wood, and darker, oak-effect laminate flooring constitute the rustic features.

The dining table also plays its part in the Mapleton’s wood décor theme – but in a different way. The top is made of ultra-pale wood, and sits on an elegant dark grey crossover base. And the cool modern shades? That’s grey for the sofas, and a delightful lavender hue for some of the cushions.

Mood lighting beneath and within the shelving on the media ‘wall’ creates a crisp, yet also relaxing atmosphere. Shelving, as well as being practical, forms a design feature at the end of the part wall that divides the entrance from the lounge. And there are shelves for shoes by the entrance, along with coat hooks.

The L-shaped kitchen has a central island unit with two stools, and a double-doored cabinet on the opposite side. Shelving is also a design element of the kitchen, with three above a cabinet beside the fridge/freezer – and there’s a four-position wine rack above the fridge.

The 40ft by 20ft Mapleton lodge is available with either two or three bedrooms.

Willerby Portland

The Willerby Portland

This is a luxury lodge with a classic country house character. Oak tones, plus pale greys and subtle pinks, create a soft, traditional look. Tartan-inspired fabric, using pink shades, fawns and greys, for the lounge curtains and the upholstery of the two wing-backed armchairs and some of the cushions, looks gorgeously classical.

The cottage-style ‘log burner’ stove, finished in pale grey, set in a black and natural wood hearth, makes a focal point statement.

One of the Portland’s most important features in terms of practicality is the size of its kitchen. It’s almost square, with a lot of work surface and a lot of storage capacity, too. And there’s a cleverly designed raised area that forms a slim breakfast bar, with two cage-style pendant lights above it – it’s simply stylish!

The Portland is offered in three layouts. These are 40ft by 16ft or 40ft by 20ft with two bedrooms, and there is also a 40ft by 20ft version with three bedrooms.
