Family park crowned in Wales awards

Husband-and-wife team John and Sarah Brookshaw are celebrating after their ‘baby’, Plassey Holiday Park in Wrexham, was awarded the title ‘Best Place to Stay’ in the National Tourism Awards for Wales.

The accolade, for which hundreds of parks in Wales were eligible, celebrates a former dairy farm. It first started welcoming caravan guests after John's parents, Tony and Della, took over the dairy more than 50 years ago.

Today the near-250 acre park, with its spectacular views across the Dee Valley, is one of North Wales's most popular destinations for holidaymakers from the UK and overseas.

But it's not just the warmth of the welcome which won thisfive-star park top spot in the Awards, staged by Visit Wales in partnership with the Wales Tourism Alliance.

Its attractions include a nine-hole golf course, indoor pool, badminton court, table tennis and an adventure playground.

That’s not to mention cycle paths, nature walks, fishing ponds and a coffee shop and restaurant. There is also an artisan craft centre which is home to 25 Wales-based retailers plus a micro-brewery.
