Love Campers unveils antique ambulance conversion

537bfaf4-54c0-4fe4-96cf-0d4f63731818

Sussex-based artisan campervan converter, Love Campers, has revealed its latest project – the conversion of a 1990s ambulance

Love Campers’ Technical Director, Darren Munday – who owns the converter with his wife, Clara – plans to use the ambulance-based creation as his own family campervan before selling it on, but for now it will also be added to the converter’s fleet of show vehicles to help customers understand the brand and what it can offer.

Having only clocked up 28,000 miles in its time as a serving ambulance, the vehicle still has all of its original paintwork and even came with lots of original features, including a first aid kid, heater and Million Mile engine MO616, considered to be one of the most reliable engines ever produced.

With an interior inspired by classic boats, the camper contains a rear fixed bed, a small ‘child’s den’ with its own fixed bed below, and a hidden garage for bikes and camping gear.

The stylish kitchen contains a retro coffee machine, Thetford oven, grill and three-burner hob, plus a large Dometic fridge and copper-coloured sink with oak worktops. The cabinetry is made from lightweight poplar ply carcasses and hard-wearing birch ply frontage, while the dining area is also made using birch ply and oak.

The campervan has solar panels, a lithium battery and a powerful inverter, enabling the Munday family to charge their electric skateboards, bikes and laptops completely off-grid. The camper is also lined with Thermafleece, a natural fibre insulation made from sheep’s wool and recycled fibres.

Darren says,

The cutting-edge and innovative design used on this ambulance will be offered as part of our newest venture: The Campervan Lab – a space where luxury, innovation and sustainability combine, to create the campervans of the future. Watch this space!
