The Rimor Horus campervan range

The Horus is the campervan range from Italian manufacturer, Rimor (say it “ree-mor”), which, in turn is part of the Trigano Group – counting the likes of Adria, Auto-Sleepers, Auto-Trail, Benimar, Chausson, McLouis, Mobilvetta and Roller Team as stablemates. And that’s just brands that have a presence here in the UK.

As far as the UK is concerned, there are three Horus campervans to choose from, all based on Fiat’s Ducato van. A fourth, the 45, is available as special order only at the time of writing. It will be selling all its Horus models with a pack comprising the 140bhp engine and Remis cab blinds. As standard, the exterior paintwork is white, but there is the option of a metallic grey at £816.

Other factory-fitted options are limited to alloy wheels (£1,350) and automatic transmission, at £2,600. However, you might want to discuss with your supplying dealer the likes of bike racks, TV aerials (terrestrial and satellite), solar panels, stereo system upgrades and more.

Rimor Horus 38

This model has a classic floorplan, offering a rear double bed on a slatted frame (for extra support and ventilation) that can be left permanently in situ or folded back when you want to carry bulky items (bikes, for instance). There is also extensive lower and upper-level locker storage in this area, supplemented by some equally handy fabric pockets. You can also make a third sleeping berth from the lounge seating and table.

Fiat’s Ducato, in 6m overall length, is the go-to base for leisure vehicles like this, so the Horus isn’t short of rivals – but you’ll be pleased to see how well it stacks up in the specification-versus-cost stakes.

With the 140bhhp engine, you can expect a decent turn of performance and the ability to cruise at motorway maximums, as well as decent economy (around the 30mpg mark), if you are prepared to take things a bit easy.

Rimor Horus 45

Available as a special order for the season ahead, the Horus 45 offers four travel seats but there’s actually sleeping accommodation for up to five. That’s thanks to an arrangement of a transverse double bed at the back, over which is the facility to add another double bed that sits on rails, so it can be moved to ease access (a ladder is provided, stowing neatly on the underside of the bed frame) – because it’s in two sections, you could also have this as just a single.

The final bed can be made from the lounge seating. And that’s all within the confines of the 6m-long Fiat Ducato base vehicle. There’s even a decent payload – a huge 858kg – before you add any extras, of course.

Base vehicle specification is exactly the same as its Horus 38 stablemate, as is the rest of the floorplan, with all the travel seating up front making a lounge when you’re on site. The kitchen and washroom are also exactly the same as the Horus 38.

The most recent addition to the Horus range, the 66 will make its UK debut at February’s Caravan, Camping and Motorhome Show. It’s a straight two-berth, with a twin-settee lounge at the back that’s always been a favourite floorplan with UK buyers. Also with the UK market in mind, Rimor have fitted a hob and oven unit as standard. Not only will you love the views out to three sides wherever you park up, there’s also that facility to fling open the rear double doors and let the countryside come in to you!

At night, those rear settees convert easily enough into side-by-side single beds, or you can make up a double. With just two of you on board, too, you may even choose to leave the beds set up here, as required.

There’s also good storage space in the settee bases, as well as plenty of high-level lockers throughout, while the kitchen has a Triplex cooker with combined oven and grill.

Rimor Horus 95

Topping the range, the 95 is the sole 6.36m-long Horus offering, which also allows for more flexibility with its floorplan. It sleeps three and offers travel seats for up to four, with the main sleeping area at the back – two single beds set high enough to provide a generous storage area below, accessible via the back doors. Those bed frames are hinged to fold upright for even more space as well as access to the wardrobe in the base of each bed, and they can also be used as a huge, lengthways double bed.

Access to the single beds is via a removable bulkhead that incorporates steps and can also be used for sealing off the storage zone at floor level.

Despite the larger bedroom, the use of the longest Fiat Ducato van means no compromise on the washroom, kitchen and lounge areas. The washroom, which has been redesigned this season, has a new thermoformed basin behind the toilet and there’s now a separate showerhead, rather than an extending tap.
