About Bürstner
Bürstner is a member of the Erwin Hymer Group and is unusual in having factories on both sides of the French/German border. It is also a rarity in producing everything from pop-top campervans right up to tag-axle A-classes. It began making motorhomes in 1986 and introduced the first drop-down bed low-profile model as long ago as 2008. It has always been seen as one of the industry’s leading innovators, something today witnessed by the introduction of the Lyseo Gallery with its inflatable upstairs bedroom.
For 2023, the range also includes the Eliseo Active high-top campervans, new Limited and best-selling Lyseo TD Harmony Line low-profiles and Lyseo I and Elegance A-classes, in addition to the pop-top Playa campervan.

It first appeared as a prototype a year ago and now there’s a production version of Bürstner’s motorhome with the supersized expanding overcab. In the meantime, it has been tested in wind, cold and heat, with 10 cycles each of a 24-hour period. So, you should be able to use this unique motorhome in any conditions and still benefit from that upstairs bedroom.
The overcab roof rises in 90 seconds with the aid of compressed air and a specially developed system, creating a fully insulated zone, unlike a conventional campervan pop-top.
On site, the vehicle has an overall height of around 3.70m but, for travelling, the roof profile is not dissimilar to a standard motorhome, and height reduces to little more than a typical figure, at 2.99m. When lowered, the roof is locked electrically.
There are two layouts in this one-of-a-kind motorhome – the 649 G with a rear lounge and this 689 G. Both are based on a Fiat Ducato with 3,850kg maximum gross weight.
The 689 G has an L-shaped lounge, featuring two rear travel seats with belts. It has a spacious washroom across the rear.
The kitchen is equipped with a larder unit, a worktop extension and a 142-litre compressor fridge as well as a cooker with oven and grill.
The 689 G layout includes a garage with twin doors, while the Fiat cab has a leather steering wheel and electric/heated mirrors. But the star feature is, of course, the staircase that leads up to a spacious bedroom with table area, sunroof and more than a metre of headroom. The stairs hide extra storage, too.

Bürstner has been missing from the mainstream A-class market for two or three seasons, but now it’s back with the Lyseo I. The new Fiat Ducato-based A-class will be available in a choice of five layouts, all designed to seat and sleep four people.
Every model comes with automatic transmission, bus-style mirrors, height-adjustable swivel cab seat, a choice of five upholsteries and an electric drop-down bed above the cab. Thanks to a modified mechanism, the bed is raised and lowered parallel to the windscreen, thereby creating additional living space.
The most interesting model for UK buyers will be the I 744 G, which features a rear lounge layout that has already been proven in the Lyseo TD Harmony Line low-profile. This model has a corner sofa with a sideboard and space for a 32in TV, as well as a drop-down bed above for a comfy night’s sleep.

We’ve seen Renault-based Bürstners in the UK before, but none as compact as the new Playa, which takes the company into a new market sector – pop-top campervans – where it is already enjoying huge success in its home market.
Based on the SWB Renault Trafic, this new camper comes with a side kitchen layout; right-hand drive versions will also get twin sliding doors.
A 128bhp engine and six-speed manual gearbox is standard, although a 148bhp motor and automatic transmission are options. In high-spec Limited Edition trim, the base vehicle also gets 17in alloy wheels, an 8in screen with sat-nav, DAB, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a reversing camera.
The pop-top is from renowned specialist, SCA, and has a bed with Froli springs and a panoramic fully opening front. There’s a sliding seat system as standard, too, plus a 41-litre compressor fridge, roll-out awning and diesel heating.
