Bürstner Lyseo Gallery TD Harmony Line: 2023 range overview

Introduced last year as a concept, the Gallery adds an overcab bedroom to a low-profile thanks to a clever inflatable mechanism. Bürstner will initially offer two layouts in this Lyseo Gallery range

The Bürstner Gallery roof concept

A year ago, Bürstner introduced its inflatable overcabroof concept, called Gallery. This basically gives a low-profile motorhome a bed over the cab – and what a bedroom.

The roof uses a system of air chambers and a compressor, which both lifts the roof and offers insulation above and beyond that of a campervan pop-top. The roof itself has been tested for wind, cold and heat; the roof was subjected to temperatures of minus 30 degrees C to over 80, along with winds of up to 75mph and 1.5m of snow.

When this roof is down the vehicle height measures 2.99m, but with the roof up that figure rises to 3.70m. That process takes 90 seconds according to the blurb from Bürstner. So now this vehicle has made it into production, joining the Bürstner fleet as a Lyseo Gallery TD Harmony Line. There are two models, both with layouts that are incredibly UK friendly. Both have proper steps (not a ladder) up to the bed, but there are key differences. The two models get the company’s Thermo-double floor that raises the level of the interior floor to cab height and keeps services inboard.

We managed to get a quick look at one of the new models at the show and can’t wait to get our hands on one to test properly.

We’ve yet to see a physical model, but the rear lounge in the 649 is sure to appeal. What’s a little unusual here is the smaller rear window on the back wall (there are two larger side windows) and shelf underneath this. There’s a reason, though, as outside under here you’ll find a storage compartment for bikes, or your other outdoor gear.

You can also specify an optional drop-down bed to make this a comfortable four-berth, with two standard seatbelts in the rear lounge providing the required travel seats. That bed drops down to the height of the shelf and, with an extra bed cushion, allows you to sleep lengthways. The lounge can also make into a third double bed, if needed.

The kitchen is adjacent to the lounge, opposite the entrance door. UK models will come with an oven/grill as well as the hob.

The washroom faces the stairway. This is possibly the one aspect of this layout that is slightly compromised. In other layouts of this type, the shower is in a separate cubicle across from the washroom, but here that space is taken up by the staircase, which does have integrated storage. So, instead, you get a compact all-in-one space, with a basin attached to a swing wall to create a semi-separate shower area.

The layouts: Bürstner Lyseo Gallery TD 689 G

This layout offers an end washroom layout made popular by Bürstner’s more compact Lyseo TD 594, yet adds just under an extra metre to offer a little more space everywhere.

The L-shaped lounge sits opposite the stairs in this instance, while the kitchen is central and the washroom sits at the back.

The L-shaped sofa offers two extra travel seats (Isofix is an option), with cab seats swivelling to face the spacious lounge. However, this lounge only offers a conversion into a single bed, so this model has just three berths, with the main double being up those steps in the elevating section. It’s a good big bed, though, measuring 2m by 1.5m (that’s 6ft 6in by 4ft 11in in old money), and there’s well over a metre of headroom, making this space feel much less enclosed than traditional overcab beds. This model also comes with a rooflight to allow light into the lounge area when the roof is down. Both bedrooms offer a worktop space for mugs of tea, books or devices.

The kitchen comes with an oven as standard in UK models, and this model has a magnetic holder for storing glasses – which come with a magnet in the base to attach securely to the system. The washroom is at the rear with a half-height wardrobe that sits above the bike garage. This spacious area therefore acts as a complete dressing room. The shower and washroom are well ventilated with a rooflight each, too.

Equipment: Bürstner Harmony Line

A few years ago Bürstner introduced the idea of all-inclusive packages, and this has taken off to such a degree that most of its model will be specified as Harmony Line models in the UK. The packages vary between ranges, but here in the UK for the Gallery range it includes:

  • 16in alloy wheels
  • Black radiator grille showing off the Bürstner logo not the Fiat badge (it’s based on the Ducato with the 2.2-litre 140bhp engine), and black framed headlights
  • Heated and electric mirrors
  • Leather steering wheel and gear knob
  • Captains cab chairs matching main seating
  • Traction+
  • Aluminium-framed windows (these have a much more flush profile than conventional habitation windows)
  • XL habitation door with central locking, window, flyscreen and charging station for the Home-Light battery light (also included)
  • Cab blinds
  • Chrome finish on rear bumper
  • Sunroof
  • Illuminated wall panel
  • Indirect lighting on the ceiling, in the kitchen, for front and back lockers and under worktops
  • Illuminated mirror in washroom
  • The 649 gets a second garage door, while the 689 has a rotating worktop extension in the kitchen and indirect lighting above the ‘bar’ area

Numerous packages include TV and WiFi, extra winterisation elements, Alde heating and various driving aids. Plus, there are options for an automatic gearbox and the 180bhp engine.

About Bürstner

Bürstner is a member of the Erwin Hymer Group and is unusual in having factories on both sides of the French/German border. It is also a rarity in producing everything from pop-top campervans right up to tag-axle A-classes. It began making motorhomes in 1986 and introduced the first drop-down bed low-profile model as long ago as 2008. It has always been seen as one of the industry’s leading innovators, something today witnessed by the introduction of the Lyseo Gallery with its inflatable upstairs bedroom.

For 2023, the range also includes the Eliseo Active high-top campervans, new Limited and best-selling Lyseo TD Harmony Line low-profiles and Lyseo I and Elegance A-classes, in addition to the pop-top Playa campervan.

Bürstner says:

Travel small, live big; this is the motto of the new Lyseo Gallery TD series.
