THE SECRETS OF HOLIDAY-HOME MANUFACTURING ARE REVEALED

In order to give them an insight into what is involved in constructing a holiday caravan, Park Holidays UK invited a group of owners to take a peek behind the scenes of a major manufacturer.

Among their discoveries was that traditional artisan skills, as well as modern materials, still have a crucial role to play in building  holiday homes.

Destination for the day was the Northampton headquarters of Prestige Park and Leisure Homes. The Park Holidays UK guests, all of whom own holiday homes across the group's 25 seaside parks in South and West England, were given privileged access to all areas of the operation.

Their inspection tour included the 70,000 square foot manufacturing plant where Prestige build both park and holiday homes with the help of its 70-strong workforce.

Although the company use a wide range of modern high-performance materials in the construction process, many guests expressed surprise at the number of traditional skills involved.

Crafts such as joinery, metalwork and upholstery were in evidence throughout the journey of the holiday home through the factory to its final fitting out.

More such VIP factory tours are planned for 2013. More details from www.parkholidays.com
