Park Home Congress is set for spring

59382269-1b08-468f-aef8-666ba87d4327
Spring 2012 will see the first meeting of the National Park Home Congress, an initiative that is being described as the most significant and exciting development for the Park Home world since the 1983 Mobile Homes Act.

The Congress is the idea of Bob Holland, a former college lecturer and now a retired park home owner, and is being supported by insurance company Towergate Bakers. It will provide a national identity and platform for park home owners everywhere and be run democratically by park home owners for park home owners.

Nearly 300 park home owners from across the UK have already pledged their support for the Congress, which seeks to identify processes, targets and campaigns to improve the park home lifestyle, in line with the wishes of park home dwellers themselves.

Membership is open to all park home owners whose park home is their main residence and is sited on a licensed residential park. Members will receive a membership number, card and full voting status. They’ll be able to stand or nominate candidates as officers, attend the National Conference in 2012 and submit motions for debate.

For Towergate Bakers, backing the Congress fits well with its commitment to support and engage with park home residents and those campaigning for justice and fairness. It complements Bakers’ programme of regional road shows, sponsorship of Sonia McColl’s JUSTICE Campaign and its long association as sponsor of the Independent Park Home Advisory Service.

Paul Baker, Park Home Account Director, Towergate Bakers, offered his congratulations to Bob Holland on his efforts to set up the new initiative. “I urge all park home residents to join up – it provides a very real opportunity for all to have their say and get involved,” said Paul. “The campaign against unscrupulous park owners who make the lives of so many park home residents a misery is really snowballing.

“More and more people, including MPs, are getting involved in the campaign for justice,” he added. “Over 250 park home residents attended our two regional road shows and I have no doubt the National Congress will take the campaign to the next level. Bakers’ is delighted to be involved and looks forward to attending the first National Conference in 2012.”

Bob Holland pointed out that Towergate Bakers is known nationally for its ‘beyond sales’ interest in the welfare of park home residents and said the firm was to be applauded for its pro-active, campaigning support over the years.

“Interest in the Congress has been amazing,” continued Bob, “and it’s anticipated that as many as 1,000 delegates will attend the first Conference.”
