HOME-GROWN VEG IS KEY TO PARK’S SUCCESS

The owners of a Lancashire residential park are bucking the economic downturn and continuing to see their business boom - with the help of home-grown courgettes, carrots and cauliflowers.
Homelands Park in Chorley say that demand for its low-cost homes is stronger than ever, thanks in part to older folk attracted by the idea of back-to-nature and self-sufficiency.
Among the passports to the good life offered to homebuyers on the park are allotments where residents raise a cornucopia of different produce.
Now the park's owners, Bryan Home and his sisters Shirley and Julie, have developed additional plots on Homelands to help cope with the continuing rise in enquiries.
From around £130,000, couples aged fifty-plus can own a modern purpose-built home in a peaceful parkland setting with its own woodland, fishing pond and all the home-grown crops they can eat.
The 16-acre park-home estate is home to an abundance of wildlife including red deer, foxes, badgers and a host of different bird species - plus a range of butterflies including the rare white admiral.
The park first began welcoming holiday guests over half a century ago. But two years ago, Bryan and his sisters decided to apply for an all-residential licence so that couples could live permanently on the park.
