Victory for Yorkshire, as nature reserve expands

Ingleborough announced as new national nature reserve
Yorkshire has been awarded with national recognition with the expansion of Ingleborough National Nature Reserve (NNR).
A milestone for landscapes in northern England
The site has grown by 179 hectares, making it one of the largest protected landscapes in northern England and has officially joined the King’s Series of National Nature Reserves, created to mark King Charles III’s Coronation.
The Dales is often framed for its limestone villages, waterfalls and moor-top views and the significance of this extension not only safeguards habitats, but also improves public access, with direct routes from Ribblehead station on the Settle-Carlisle railway.
For caravanners, Ingleborough is now an even bigger draw and to make finding a suitable campsite easier, you can search through a collection of Premier Parks or use our Campsite Finder tool to plan stays near the reserve, with options ranging from family-friendly campsites to adults-only touring campsites.

Natural England Chair, Tony Juniper, said,
“The breathtaking beauty and rich natural wonders of the Yorkshire Dales are national treasures.
“Today’s extension to the Ingleborough National Nature Reserve brings more of this wonderful place into active nature recovery, in the process helping safeguard species found nowhere else in the UK.
“Natural England is delighted to be working with such excellent partners who are so passionately committed to halting and reversing wildlife decline, while reconnecting people with the natural world.”
