Hugh Jackman stars in a quirky new murder mystery
Hugh Jackman’s The Sheep Detectives puts caravans centre stage in a quirky new murder mystery
Caravans are set to enjoy another moment in the spotlight when The Sheep Detectives arrives in cinemas in May 2026, with Hugh Jackman starring in a story that blends rural life and classic whodunnit storytelling.
Hugh Jackman starring as a shepherd in whimsical mystery
Based on Leonie Swann’s novel Three Bags Full, the film sees Jackman play George Hardy, a shepherd who lives a quiet life on his farm and as revealed in the recently released trailer, spends his evenings reading detective novels to his flock while staying in an Airstream-style caravan. When George is unexpectedly found dead, the sheep take it upon themselves to solve the mystery, observing the humans around them and piecing together clues.

Star-studded cast brings caravanning to big screen
The trailer leans heavily into the film’s family-friendly tone, with talking sheep and the use of The Proclaimers’ “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)”, which shows a new take on the murder mystery genre. Alongside Jackman, the cast includes Emma Thompson, Bryan Cranston, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Patrick Stewart, Bella Ramsey and Chris O’Dowd.
Jackman’s character is shown living and relaxing around a caravan, showcasing how touring vehicles are increasingly being used on screen not just as props, but as key characterful spaces.
Over the past few years, caravans and motorhomes have featured more prominently across film and television, something we previously explored in our feature on the most iconic caravan scenes in TV and film history.
From screen to campsite
At the same time, celebrities are playing a growing role in shaping how caravanning is perceived. From high-profile TV series set on caravan parks to well-known names openly embracing UK holidays, the sector has benefited from a renewed relevance – recent examples include Danny and Dani Dyer’s upcoming caravan park series. We’ve reached out to the team behind The Sheep Detectives to explore whether there may be an opportunity for behind the scenes insight or imagery that further highlights the caravan element of the film.
With its star-studded cast, rural setting and caravan-based storytelling, The Sheep Detectives looks set to be both an entertaining family film and another nod to how caravans continue to weave their way into popular culture, not just as leisure vehicles, but as places where stories unfold.
