Top 5 caravan moments in TV and film
Inspiration
Caravans have appeared in some memorable moments across television and film, often used as small, contained settings that naturally lend themselves to drama, comedy or character-driven storytelling.
Here are five notable examples where caravans made their mark on screen.
1. Sightseers (2012)
Ben Wheatley’s Sightseers remains one of the most recognisable caravan-based films of recent years.
The story follows a couple adventuring through northern England in their Abbey caravan, capturing everything from small touring sites to the everyday rituals that come with life on the road.
Despite the film’s darker tone, its depiction of caravanning feels grounded and familiar, and the caravan itself becomes a central part of the story’s atmosphere.

2. Snatch (2000)
Guy Ritchie’s Snatch features both Brad Pitt and a caravan, in one of the film’s most remembered early scenes.
The plot briefly revolves around a deal to buy a caravan and although the caravan doesn’t appear for long, the moment has become well associated with the film.
It’s an instance where a caravan becomes a small but decisive part of a much larger storyline.
The Inbetweeners (Series 1, 2008)
In the first series of The Inbetweeners, the episode “Caravan Club” revolves around a weekend trip to a caravan site in Camber Sands.
The setting provides the backdrop for the group’s typical outings, with the caravan serving as a confined space where much of the awkwardness unfolds.
It’s a funny use of a caravan on screen and many viewers will recognise the familiar experience of several people trying to share a smaller space.
4. Derek (Series 2, 2014)
Ricky Gervais’s Derek includes a small caravan sequence in its second series involving the character Kev.
While the scene is short, it became well known among fans due to a popular behind-the-scenes clip that circulated online during the show’s run.
The scene takes place inside Kev’s caravan and highlights how these compact spaces can be used effectively for character moments, whether scripted or otherwise.
5. The Flintstones (1960s)
Even animated shows have put their own spin on the caravan experience.
In The Flintstones and later related series, there are episodes where the families tow a Stone Age styled caravan on a camping trip.
It’s a playful exaggeration of a tourer, but still recognisably based on the idea of hitching up a caravan and heading off for a break – something that has long been part of the wider culture of family holidays.
