Introduction to Flaxton Meadows
This adults-only, eco campsite is is a natural haven, feeling miles from anywhere, yet close to the city of York. Bordered by rolling farmland and heathland, Flaxton Meadows is located in North Yorkshire’s beautiful countryside but just eight miles from York city centre. This is a peaceful, natural retreat within easy reach of a wide range of amenities.

What the campsite has to offer
There are hardstanding and grass pitches available, with electric hook-up. A nice touch that I noticed during my visit are the caravan pitching information boards – each one features a drawing of a different famous vehicle, such as the Batmobile and General Lee.
On site there are toilets, showers, an accessible bathroom, a launderette, a pretty lake area and the Champers for Campers bar. Electricity is generated from the site’s own natural resource system (involving ground source heat pumps and solar panels), while the underfloor heating is powered from this, too.
Dogs are welcome on site at Flaxton Meadows and two 1.5-acre fenced exercise areas are available half a mile away, charged at £6 for 30 minutes.
Things to do

Flaxton Meadows is ideal for anyone wanting to visit the historic city of York as it is located in the countryside, yet within a short drive of several city park and ride services that have spaces for motorhomes. The closest, Grimston Bar, is just 15 minutes’ drive away.
There is a mown wildlife walk around the edge of the campsite and the car park for the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust’s Strensall Common is only a mile away. A golf club is also just down the road from the site.
