The launch last year of Vango’s innovative AirBeam inflatable tents caused a huge stir in the camping world and their success has prompted the company to expand the range even further.

While last year’s tents were all family-sized, this time Vango have gone for a variety of sizes, including this two berth weekend tent. Due to its weight and size the Flux 200 is unlikely to appeal to the hardcore lightweight camper - at 5.7kg it’s at least twice as heavy as the average backpacking tent.

But it is convenience where this tent gains points. For speed of pitching, the Flux 200 is hard to beat – from start to finish it took just three minutes to put up. Simply, peg it out flat, connect the supplied pump to the valves, give it a few blasts of air and watch as the tent takes shape. It’s no surprise that Vango say it is the fastest AirBeam tent to put up.

Once it’s up you’ll find a surprisingly spacious tent. Most two-man tents tend to be rather cramped to say the least, but the Flux is roomy, helped by the large front porch area that has plenty of room for storing gear. The two big windows on each side of the front door add to the sense of space and give the tent a really bright feel – as does its bright red colour.

Inside there are storage pockets for keeping your gadgets in and the sewn-in groundsheet means the elements and bugs should be kept at bay.

Camping says: A sleek, red, sports car of a tent. Small, fast, technically innovative and totally unsuitable for families – although, of course, that is not who it’s aimed at. The AirBeam technology remains impressive, but make sure you follow the inflation instructions to the letter. A few problems last year with the beams being over-inflated and bursting led to Vango issuing new guidelines to owners about the pressure levels.
