Comment:

The Peakland Hucklow is a three-pole tunnel tent. Its centre pole is larger than the others to provide increased headroom and useable floor space in the living area.

When looking at the front of the tent, its right hand wall has a door that can be opened and poled out as a sunporch. It has a vinyl window which can be closed off from prying eyes by an internal drop down curtain that is secured using Velcro.

The left hand wall has a massive vinyl window that has an internal curtain. Even more light is let in by the big curved windows that sit each side of the front door, and the smaller vinyl window in the door itself. Again, all have internal curtains that close using Velcro tabs. The front door can also be poled out as a sunporch, or fold back both doors to create a nice airy living space to catch the sun.

The front door is prevented from flapping by two guys that are located under the window. A further guy is attached to the apex of the front pole sleeve to provide extra stability in bad weather. These front guys can be tied out of the way when using the door as a sun porch.

Ventilation is provided by a large mesh panel in the back of the tent. This is protected by a zip down panel that can be guyed out or rolled up out of the way. This back wall also has numerous guys that provide stability in the wind. There is also a large mesh panel in the front door. This is protected by a bellows held open by two Velcro props.

A valance on the outer runs around the living area to prevent draughts. Although a useful feature, it cannot be tied up to allow an increase in airflow to remove condensation.

Inside, the tunnel tent is as one would expect. There is a clip-in groundsheet that protects the living space and a clip-in bedroom, split into two by a modesty curtain. The bedroom clips are not colour-coded so pay attention when pitching.

Camping says Yeomans has enjoyed a century servicing the needs of the outdoor enthusiast who requires functional equipment at the right price. Its Peakland brand has always stood out from the mass as quality budget gear that provides value for money.

The Hucklow is no exception – it is a neat family tent (two adults and three small kids or four adults) or large tourer that should prove ideal for the low-level summer camping conditions we meet in Britain. CG
