MADE in Denmark, the Combi-Camp’s build quality is legendary. You can find 20-year-old Combi-Camps – complete with original canvas – changing hands for good money on Ebay and although the basic design and mechanism has evolved over the years, the fundamental underpinnings are broadly similar.
One side of the trailer-rack detaches and swings over the side of the trailer to counterbalance the solidly-built GRP lid, meaning the Valley can be safely erected singlehanded. It’s then simply a case of pushing the lid over to create the living area floor, raising the canvas roof in the process. Horizontal braces tension the roof and then it’s simply a case of tightening up the remaining fabric and – if required – erecting the awning.
The fixed rear kitchen sets the standard for all other trailer tents – incorporating a sink, drawers, fridge and high-level shelf. Recent innovations include flexible poles to hold the rear vents open and a cosy carpet for the floor. It’s expensive, but Combi-Camp remains the benchmark in this market.
