PITCHING For an eight-berth tent the Galileo 8 is surprisingly easy to pitch, thanks to its tunnel structure and the simple ring-and-pin pole system. All the poles are the same size, meaning there is no stress about which slides into which sleeve. Its size does mean that you will need two pairs of hands to complete the job but for a big tent it’s relatively light to carry and doesn’t take up a huge amount of boot space.

LIVING The vis-à-vis layout (literally face-to-face) means you have bedrooms at both ends with a central living area. There is a D-shaped door on each side with a large window alongside, which allows lots of light into the living area. It also has decent headroom and the overall space is a decent size – comfortably allowing you to set up a dining table and chairs and other storage furniture if needed.

SLEEPING There are two large bedrooms at each end, all of which can accommodate a double airbed. For a family of two adults and two younger children this could allow you to sleep at one end and use the other end for storage or further living space. Alternatively the bedroom dividers could be unhooked to make one large room at each end, depending on your requirements.

OUR VIEW Overall the Galileo is a great value, large family tent that provides plenty of living space and lots of versatility for sleeping. And with the addition of an optional extension, the living space really opens out and would be ideal for a long term family holiday. The tent is light and airy and enjoys good headroom throughout. The lack of storage pockets in the living area is disappointing but there are other extras like a zipped cable entry point and a lantern hanging hook.
