I’m sure you don’t need me to remind you that we’re living in an age of austerity. Let’s face it, you can hardly turn on the TV or radio these days without encountering news of some new economic catastrophe at home or abroad. With the green shoots of recovery still struggling to break through, money is tight for everyone. All the more reason for going camping, I hear you say. Well, yes, exactly – those of use who love camping all know that it is tremendous value for money.

But even so there are always ways of saving a few more quid, without detracting from the overall experience. In fact, if you’re clever enough you can positively enhance your camping experience by tightening the purse strings a little.

For around £230 you get a high quality weekend/touring tent that offers very comfortable sleeping space for a family of four. It has everything you’d expect from a company with Coleman’s pedigree. It’s easy to pitch, relatively lightweight and bright and airy – thanks to the large PVC windows, good headroom and excellent ventilation. But spend another £120 or so on a front extension and you can transform your weekend tent into a big family model with a second large living space, ideal for use as a kitchen/dining area. You’ll find yourself with something that is bigger than many of the market leading family tents, for little more than half the cost.

Basically you have two family tents for the price of one. A weekender for short breaks and, with the addition of the porch, a large tent with all the space you need for longer holidays. A superb buy that should meet all your family camping needs.
