PITCHING
When time is tight on a weekend trip, the last thing you want to be doing is spending ages putting your tent up and taking it down. The Drake can be pitched by one person in a few minutes, making it the perfect weekender option. Lightweight fibreglass poles slide into the pre-attached hub and Fast Fit Foot and are then clipped to the flysheet. Packing away is just as simple.

LIVING/SLEEPING
The Drake 4 has a useful porch area at the front which isn’t really big enough to use as a fully fledged living area but does provide enough space for a couple of people to shelter from the elements. However where it comes into its own is as a storage space for your bags and shoes etc. It has a pre-attached groundsheet (not fully sewn-in), which means you won’t drag mud into the main body of the tent. The sleeping area is spacious enough to sleep four, either on two double airbeds, four singles or a combination of the above. Ventilation panels allow good airflow and are designed to keep condensation levels down and there are storage pockets for stashing small items, like phones and watches. While this model can accommodate four, it is perfect for two, with more storage space inside the tent.

OUR VIEW
The most important thing to consider for a weekend tent is the ease and speed of pitching. The Drake 4 scores highly on both counts thanks to the intuitive new Hub pitching system. What with their blackout bedrooms, hinged doors and new inflatable tents, this has been a year of remarkable innovation from Coleman and that inventive spirit continues with the Drake. The Drake 4 works as a four-berth tent, but is probably best suited for a couple. Overall a great weekend tent option.
