Traditionally tents are classified by the number of people that they are intended to sleep. That said, some manufacturers’ idea of space tends to be on the conservative side, so it is definitely worth considering getting a tent which is a size up on the number of people it is intended for.

For example, a family of four would benefit from considering a six-berth tent. Families with young children will have specific requirements with parents needing to keep close by so the single bedroom option divided with a hanging curtain might be best, while older children will probably prefer a room of their own - just like at home!

Some layouts feature further privacy with sleeping compartments on either side of the living area, which is termed vis-a-vis. Flexibility is the name of the game for a growing number of designs and it is worth looking around for a tent which best matches your personal requirements.
