Camping gear is flying off the virtual shelves as more Brits look for cheaper ways to holiday this summer, with new figures from Gumtree revealing a huge rise in demand for secondhand outdoor equipment.
According to Gumtree, practical camping essentials have continued to see increased interest. Searches for camping tables rose by 81%, while camping chairs increased by 70%. Demand for tents climbed 44%, with camping stoves also rising by 38% ahead of the busy summer season.
Gumtree said shoppers could save up to 82% by opting for pre-loved camping kit instead of buying new, with tents showing some of the biggest savings.
Andy Harper, COO of Gumtree, said
“Camping is fast becoming one of the most affordable ways for Brits to get away this summer, and we’re seeing a clear shift towards secondhand first as people look to cut costs.”
The resale spike is also creating an opportunity for households to clear out unused equipment, with many people selling gear that has only been used once or twice.
With festival season approaching and summer holidays just around the corner, the secondhand camping market looks set for another busy few months.
