Must-visit towns in mid-Wales

• Welshpool – a market town just three miles from the England border and home to Powis Castle and Garden. The main streets are lined with Georgian buildings.
• Builth Wells – a friendly market town with unique buildings, making a fine base for walking and cycling and visiting the Royal Welsh Show.
• Devil’s Bridge – a small village 12 miles from Aberystwyth famous for its waterfall and three stacked bridges. It is also the terminus of the Vale of Rheidol Railway mentioned in the West Coast Wales section.

Must-do activities in mid-Wales

• Golf – mid-Wales is a vast area offering a classic variety of courses where you can enjoy superb scenery at the same time. Once such course is Llandrindod Wells with its enviable position some 1,000 feet above sea level with stunning vistas.
• Fishing – take your pick of many fishing opportunities in mid Wales, whether coarse fishing or fly fishing. Claerwen Reservoir supports an abundance of brown trout and Llyngwyn Lake is a 16-acre spring-fed natural lake in a secluded area three miles east of Rhayader.
• Walking – both Glyndwr’s Way and Offa’s Dyke national trails pass through mid Wales. Walk for as little or as long as you like along these long-distance routes.

Must-see places in mid-Wales

• Glansevern Hall Gardens – set on the banks of the River Severn, these gardens offer over 25 stunning acres of landscape and exotic planting.
• Red Kite Feeding Centre – located on a 200-acre working farm, hundreds of red kites feed here daily and it is quite the spectacle to see.
• Clywedog Lake – a huge man-made reservoir with trails, viewing points and a host of wildlife to be seen around the shoreline and in the surrounding woods.
