Limit Home Park, Hertfordshire

SET on a hill on the south side of Chesham Vale, the park has outstanding views across surrounding countryside. Limit Home Park is well situated for transport, with a fast rail service to London of around 35 minutes; good local bus services to Hemel Hempstead and Aylesbury; and easy access to the M1 and M25.

Close to the park in Northchurch is a shopping parade providing all basic requirements. The nearby town of Berkhamsted has a further selection of shops and amenities, and also a full day Saturday market. Hemel Hempstead is a short bus ride away, with access to large stores and other facilities.

Limit Home Park is a compact park, which has been thoroughly modernised and re-developed, with provision for mains gas and ample car parking facilities. Arrangements can be made with local shops for deliveries of dairy products, greengroceries and newspapers to the park.

Berkhamsted is set in a valley of the Chiltern Hills, with a history going back beyond Saxon times. Its claim to fame includes strong royal, literary and teaching connections.

It was in Berkhamsted, where earlier there was a Saxon fort, that William was handed the crown in 1066. Here, his half-brother, Count Robert of Mortain, built a motte and bailey castle with two moats. Substantial ruins of the castle still remain. The hymnist and poet, William Cowper, was born in the Rectory here, less than 200 years before Graham Greene was born at St John’s, a boarding house of Berkhamsted School.

The Grand Junction, now the Grand Union Canal, was opened through Berkhamsted in 1798. Up until the Second World War the canal was a principal artery of the industrial revolution linking London with the West Midlands. The ‘Father of Inland Navigation’, the Duke of Bridgewater, who inspired the canal system in England, had his home up on the hill at Ashridge.

And just what, you might ask, is a Totem Pole doing in Berkhamsted? The site used to be a timber yard that imported wood from the West coast of Canada. As a gesture of friendship, the Canadian wood yard dispatched the locally crafted totem pole as a gift.
