Wellhouse Leisure sells record number of campervans in one day during lockdown

Yorkshire-based campervan converter, Wellhouse Leisure, is celebrating a record-breaking number of campervans sold in one day, despite the lockdown situation.

David Elliott, CEO of Wellhouse Leisure, said: “We set a new sales record last week by selling seven of our campervans in one day. That’s the most we’ve ever sold in one day since we started the business 18 years ago. It’s a really positive sign for us, the camping and caravanning industry, UK tourism and the economy."

The seven campervans sold were a mixture of Wellhouse’s Ford and Toyota conversions for customers in the local area as well as across the UK, including the south coast, Northern Ireland, The Shetlands and France. Having offered customers virtual video tours of its campervans during lockdown, Wellhouse re-opened its showroom to customers on June 1.

A new factory for Wellhouse Leisure

In order to accommodate the growing number of campervan orders and sales enquiries, Wellhouse Leisure has also announced a move to a larger factory in South Yorkshire. The new 16,000 sq ft factory in Baugh Green, Barnsley, gives Wellhouse Leisure an extra 9,000 sq ft of space and will include a showroom, parts warehouse, offices plus a larger forecourt to display new and used campervans. 

“With social distancing likely to be in place for several months, a campervan is the perfect way to travel independently, and we now feel positive enough about the future that we’ve decided to expand to new, larger premises, and will be moving to a new factory and showroom six miles away (but still in Yorkshire) in July," adds David.

“Everyone is looking forward to being able to travel again, but I think people are put off flying, cruises and going abroad for a while, so are considering UK holidays with the freedom of a campervan instead,” he added.
