Owners of the Grand California should get in touch with their nearest VW Van Centre, as the company has issued a recall related to rooflight bonding

The recall notification (R/2022/178) states: Due to a possible faulty bonding, the roof window cover may completely come loose. Check the bonding and modify or replace the roof window as necessary.

It goes on to clarify that 115 Grand Californias are affected. If you haven’t received a recalls notification from VW, then check in with your nearest VW Van Centre to find out if your vehicle is affected.

This is not the only recall issued on the German firm’s largest campervan based on the VW Crafter.

According to the VOSA database, five vehicles built in May 2019 needed extra protection fitted to the skylight over the drop-down bed to stop children from being able to climb out of it.

Following on from the success of the Transporter-based Californias, VW launched the Grand California in 2019 to offer a full-sized sister model to the T6.1-based line-up of Beach and Ocean pop-top campervans.

The larger Grand California comes in 600 (click here to read our review of the VW Grand California 600) and 680 versions (6.0m and 6.8m), and using the larger Crafter van as its base allows it to include a full washroom and fixed bed. The California range has since been expanded further with a model based on the smaller Caddy, too.

To date, the California can claim to be Europe’s most popular campervan for sale today with over 175,000 examples sold.
