Spain Passes New Rules For Motorhomes
News
On 16 May, Spain’s Dirección General de Tráfico (DGT) introduced a new national ruling requiring technical inspections for motorhomes and new powers to set parking restrictions.
Local authorities will now have the power to set parking time limits and prohibit camping, with the measures designed to “mitigate the negative effects that prolonged parking could cause on the flow and safety of traffic."
Government figures show motorhome use in the country has increased steadily over the past decade, rising from around 48,000 in 2015 to 137,000 last year.

The DGT confirmed that the regulations apply only to vehicles registered in Spain, with foreign vehicles required to comply with the legislation in their country of origin.
Motorhomes will be exempt from inspection for the first four years, before moving to biennial checks up to ten years old. After that, inspections become annual.
The update also introduces new S-128 signage, marking waste water disposal points for leisure vehicles.
Meanwhile, designated motorhome stopovers will face tighter regulation, now falling under the category of tourist accommodation and requiring clearer signage and improved facilities.
