Pilote And Joa By Pilote Reveal 2027 Motorhome Ranges

News

The brand formerly known as Joa Camp is now Joa by Pilote, making use of that strong reputation and extensive experience in the industry, and it has launched the 2027 range with a bang.

Peter has reviewed everything from the smallest micro-camper to the biggest Liner-type A-classes you can drive on a C1 licence, and driven motorhomes all over the world.

A bold new look for the A-classes

You couldn't miss the star of the Pilote press preview, the new Galaxy A-class. Forsaking the previous rather dated and rounded front end, the 2027 models have gone all angular.

The design is much more modern – it had to be, as it's expected to stay current for a decade, such is the investment involved. Production models will, however, differ slightly from those photographed, as the Pilote logo (a new design) above the windscreen will be deleted and the company name will instead be spelled out above the grille.

The new design has also had to incorporate the latest ADAS (driver assistance) systems, which will be standard across all Pilote vehicles in 2027.

Externally, the rear of the A-classes has also received attention, with a look that takes its inspiration from the Ford-based Atlas range, complete with a black band across the stern incorporating the LED tail lights.

The gas compartment has been moved, too, and reduced in size, as the vehicles are less reliant on LPG, with Truma 6kW diesel/230V heating and a 150 or 158-litre compressor fridge now fitted as standard. In place of the gas locker, there is now a Technibox housing the habitation electrics and a 200Ah or 300Ah lithium battery.

Pilote will offer 12 Fiat-based A-class models (four with Al-Ko chassis) next year, with prices ranging from £85,900 (G690 Expression) to £104,900 (G781 Évidence). New options include the return of the 160hp Fiat engine, a second 200W solar panel and, rather usefully, anti-slip mats in the kitchen drawers.

There are fewer changes to the low-profile motorhomes, although these see aesthetic improvements in the kitchen and more ergonomically shaped settees in the lounge, also seen in the A-classes. The end washroom models (P690D low-profile and G690D A-class) have been redesigned to increase their garage capacity by 25%, so two e-bikes can now be accommodated inside.

Joa by Pilote expands the entry-level range

Pilote is keen to stress that Joa motorhomes are built in the company's main factory alongside those of the parent marque, not at a lesser site as with some rivals.

Much of the body construction and technology of the Joa motorhomes, along with R&D and staffing, is thus shared with Pilote vehicles.

JOA 75Q

With a new name, a new logo, new graphics, new furniture and new upholstery, the Joa by Pilote models mark a completely fresh start.

The very first examples were shown at the Caravan, Camping and Motorhome Show at the NEC in February, and initially five low-profile motorhomes were announced: a compact French bed model, plus island and single bed floorplans in 6.99m or 7.39m lengths.

Now, at the Groupe Pilote press preview, Joa has unveiled two more models, taking the range to 10 variants in all.

The existing Joa range already included 7.39m models with either an island bed (75Q) or twin beds (75T). Each of these has the kitchen on the offside, aft of the habitation door, with the ablutions in one room opposite, where a swing-wall makes practical use of the space.

The newcomers are the 75QB (island bed) and 75TB (single beds). Fractionally longer, at 7.45m, these vehicles also have an L-shaped seating area with a single seat on the offside, plus, of course, swivel cab seats. The lounge is a tad smaller than the existing versions, although a fifth travel seat is optional.

Where the new motorhomes differ is in having separate toilet and shower areas on either side of the vehicle. The separate shower is on the nearside, while the loo area is located on the offside. The toilet door can be used to separate the en suite from the lounge and kitchen up front, while a curtain gives privacy to the bedroom.

The 75QB and 75TB are based on a 3,500kg (3,650kg optional) Fiat Ducato with 140hp engine and automatic transmission, and both models are priced at £68,400. Standard specification includes Truma Combi D 4 diesel heating, a 100W solar panel, roll-out awning, oven and grill, and a 133-litre fridge with automatic energy selection.

An electric drop-down bed can be added for £1,760, while the optional Driving Pack (£1,150) adds automatic lights and wipers, adaptive cruise control and an electric parking brake.
