Discover the perfect gifts for motorhomers this Christmas!

22774835-6aa5-432d-98b9-08ba00659cc9

The festive season fast approaches and if you’re looking for that special gift for the motorhomer in your life (novelty mug, anyone?) it can feel difficult knowing where to start

Well, we’d recommend right here.

We’ve made getting ready for Christmas easier with our gift guide for outdoorsy people, including the best gear and apparel that we’ve reviewed this year and some products that easily make onto it our wish lists, courtesy of What Motorhome Editor, Peter Vaughan, and MMM Deputy Editor, Rachel Scholes.

From high-performance e-bikes to a motorhome-ready portable oven, these are the gifts that will help make Christmas in 2023 unforgettable!

Best reviewed gear in 2023: Remoska Prima 4-litre

Remoska Prima 4l

(Staff photo)

How many times have you looked at a campervan, or even some European motorhomes, and thought ’that would be my perfect vehicle, if only it had an oven’? Well, the answer may be a lot simpler than you thought, with no hacking about of the cabinets to squeeze one in or compromise at mealtimes.

The Remoska Prima looks a bit like a saucepan with a glass window in its lid; actually, it’s an electric oven that can sit on your countertop as and when required. It can be used for baking, roasting, grilling and more and it comes in 2-litre or 4-litre sizes (we have the larger one).

The Remoska’s rugged design looks like it won’t mind being stuffed into a locker or garage until you need it, but the proof of this particular pudding is in the cooking. We haven’t tried baking a cake (many Remoska users say they have), but instead the sort of quick and easy grub that you want on the go. Jacket potatoes and a frozen pizza were prepared every bit as well as at home and there’s no long (time and energy wasting) wait for the Remoska to heat up.

So, don’t worry if the campervan or motorhome you own, or want to buy, doesn’t have an oven; just get a Remoska – it even now comes with a three-year guarantee.

Best reviewed apparel in 2023: Keela Smirr Poncho

Keela Smirr Poncho

(Photo from Keela)

Ponchos have a bit of a bad reputation – most people think about disposable plastic macs (maybe some of you still have the MMM-branded ones we gave away nearly two decades ago). However, this Smirr version from Keela is here to set the record straight.

It’s handy as it packs away quite small into a dedicated bag, so you can keep it in a backpack or bag and simply throw it on when the heavens open. It also takes up much less space in the motorhome than a standard waterproof. It’s a tight fit in the bag though.

The neck has press-stud type buttons to make donning it easier and it’s a really good length. If you are a keen cyclist there are also internal straps to secure to handlebars, meaning it’s less likely to blow up when pedalling. There’s also a belt loop at the back, but I challenge anyone to do this without looking idiotic.

The key issue we found is that there’s no elasticated hood; to stop this falling down in the wind, our reviewer had to hold with one hand, and ended up with a river of water down the arm.

It does, however, come in very bright shades with interesting names; we had Highland Coo/Loch Depths (orange and grey), but might have been tempted by the yellow and grey combo of Timorous Beastie and Par for the Gorse, or you can have blue (Wee Dook) or green (Where’s Nessie?).

According to Keela, the name comes from the word smur, which translates to fine/drizzly rain. The only thing we would have to add is that we’re not sure about the etymology of the Keela brand name – answers on a postcard…

On our wish list: Daan Tech Bob dishwasher

Daan Tech Bob dishwasher

(Photo from Daan Tech)

My Christmas wish list this year includes a Bob, a tabletop portable dishwasher from France. I’m surrounded by naysayers as I type this, with echoes or ‘how much washing up do you generate in a campervan?’ and ‘don’t be so lazy, it doesn’t take long to wash up a couple of dishes’. But I counter back with, ‘I don’t go on holiday to do the washing up. Life’s too short’. However, saying that, if you’d miss catching up with the daily campsite gossip columnists at the washing-up sinks, stop reading now.

On the other hand, if you, like us, think holiday time is too precious for the mere mundane, then taking a dishwasher away in the campervan is surely a good idea. The great thing with Bob is that it was designed for tiny Parisian flats with little or no kitchen, so it's perfect for the campervan or motorhome.

Simply fill the water tanks, plug in and off you go. Obviously, unless you have a wonderful lithium battery/inverter set-up, you’ll need to be plugged into the mains on the campsite. But we were very excited to see RP Motorhomes listing it as an option for its models – vindication, we think. And it really means that a dishwasher is no longer the preserve of million-pound motorhomes.

The fact that it’s pretty easy on the eye, with super retro styling doesn’t hurt either. The price may put some off, starting at £319.90, excluding VAT – as the company is in France you’ll have to pay the tax to the carrier before you receive your Bob, which is a little frustrating.

Choose between a white or black body, and then there are various free shades (all the colours of the rainbow and more) for the front, but you can also opt (at a cost) for matt black or white or a metallic finish.

EnviroRides Ezi Stow

E-bikes have to be possibly one of the hottest motorhome topics for 2023. As well as choosing the bike itself, there’s all sorts of considerations regarding charging on board and maintenance, so keep an eye out next month (January 2024) for our comprehensive advice feature in MMM.

However, back to the accessory in question and here we’ve picked the Ezi Stow model from EnviroRides. That’s because not everyone has a large under-bed storage area capable of taking full-sized bikes, or maybe you don’t want a rack cluttering up the rear and extending the length.

The 13Ah lithium ion battery offers around 50 miles of pedal assistance, taking four to six hours to recharge. Other features include 20in tyres, integrated front and rear lights, pannier rack, hydraulic disc brakes, Shimano gear shifter and derailleur, and an easy-to-use display showing speed, battery, level of assistance, average speed and trip computer.

This model is a smidge over £1k at £1,099.99, and it comes with a two-year warranty and free delivery. Plus, you can spread the cost over three or four payments.
