Laika launches Kreos on Mercedes
The Laika Kreos low-profile motorhome was launched just a few years ago to much acclaim, based on the Fiat Ducato. Known for its traditional Italian styling at the time, this model was a massive departure in terms of both design and technology. Following on from an A-class version also on the Fiat, the company has now introduced a Mercedes-based version of the original low profile.
This new model, the Kreos L 5009 MB, has the same excellent features but it is underpinned by Mercedes' Sprinter chassis with the 170hp engine. The key difference is that the Mercedes has more space in the cab, which creates a roomier feeling lounge when those seats are swivelled round to face the sofas.
Also, the 9G-Tronic automatic gearbox is standard, while the electric parking brake gets rid of the need for a physical handbrake – which can be awkward to reach or get in the way when rotating cab seats.
Being Laika's flagship motorhome on a Mercedes, the cab is packed with specification including the Tempmatic semi-automatic air-con system and the MBUX multimedia system that includes phone integration (Apple CarPlay/Android Auto). The cab seats are the MB Comfort versions, which mean they are adjustable as well as swivelling.
Pleated cab blinds and a leather steering wheel complete the new cab area.
There is a flat floor from cab to the rear of the motorhome, but the cab floor now extends into the rest of the living area, offering what Laika says is a 'better heat distribution'. Work has been done in the area to improve the movement of hot air – with a two-speed fan booster.
Externally, there is a new front door moulding to complement the new chassis. The new model will be making its debut in January 2025 at Germany's Stuttgart show.
Inside, apart from a more spacious cab, the rest of the model remains the same, so read our review of the Fiat-based Laika L 5009 or watch the video review over on our YouTube channel.
