Iveco reveals all-new Daily

Iveco has revealed its 2022 Daily, which is used by several manufacturers of larger motorhomes as their base vehicle of choice

It last had a major makeover in 2019 and, today, retains a key advantage over its opposition – a range of maximum gross weights from 3.5 up to 7.2 tonnes.

It is built on a truck-style ladder-frame chassis that makes it an ideal basis for some of Europe’s largest and most prestigious motorhomes.

This new 2022 Daily has evolved but is easily identifiable by its restyled grille, new full LED headlamps, and optional alloy wheels (which increase payload by 10kg). And, inside, there’s a new flat-bottomed steering wheel.

Enhanced engines for the Iveco Daily

A big part of the enhancement of the new Daily concerns revised power units, which meet the Euro 6D-Final standard for light-duty models and Euro VI-E for heavy-duty versions. Not only are the new engines cleaner, but they offer up to 15% more torque and fuel consumption is said to be improved by up to 6% (on the 2.3-litre models).

The 156bhp motor now has an impressive 400Nm of torque, up from 350Nm. The new engine range starts with the 2.3-litre producing 116bhp and 340Nm of torque and, with this engine, outputs of 136bhp (370Nm) and 156bhp (400Nm) are also available. For those requiring more power, the 3.0-litre engine is available with outputs of 160bhp (400Nm), 176bhp (430Nm) and 207bhp (470Nm).

There are manual and automatic options – the automatic retains the eight-speed Hi-Matic transmission that was a gamechanger on its arrival five years ago. Meanwhile, the six-speed manual gearbox is new and claims best-in-class precision, with 50% less free play and increased clutch durability. It’s a lot more positive in use than most van gearshifts.

All the new engines feature a new aftertreatment system with two SCRs (selective catalytic reduction), so there are two phases of urea (AdBlue) injection to reduce emissions. This has been done without reducing the loadspace available.

The new Iveco Daily's optional extras

A number of new features are offered as optional extras on the revised Daily. These include City Brake Pro, which automatically helps with collision avoidance at speeds between 3mph and 30mph, while Queue Assist works in conjunction with the adaptive cruise control (another new option) and the stop/start system to move the vehicle forward and stop it automatically in queuing traffic – all the driver has to do is steer!

Also available now are Proactive Lane Keeping Assist, Hill Descent and Traction Plus, and Crosswind Assist. It is also the only van with twin rear wheels where the inside rear tyre is monitored for correct pressures.

More novel, perhaps, is the Iveco Driver Pal, which can use voice commands to find the nearest fuel station, local dealer, or even tell you a joke!

Across all versions, it is easy to appreciate the benefit of the new memory foam cab seats, which use viscoelastic material developed by NASA for astronauts during launch.
