The Ranch Caravan Park

af721356-ee83-491a-a589-bf0b8d9056b8
SET four miles from Selby, a market town that is renowned for its association with ship-building (thanks to the Selby Canal which connected it with Leeds), the Ranch is a small site that offers 45 pitches.

It’s unusual in that it offers particularly large pitches that can cater for the largest of leisure vehicles – RVs and twin-axle caravans will have no problems pitching here. Most of the pitches are on gravelled hardstandings accessed via tarmac roads, so the site can be used throughout the year in any weather. Grassed pitches are also offered, should you prefer it.

On-site facilities include a modern toilet block that features baby changing facilities, free hot showers (no mucking about with coin slots here) as well as disabled facilities. There’s also a laundry room, too.

Outside, there’s a picnic area and a children’s playground, while Wi-Fi is offered to enable you to keep track of your emails and stay in touch with family and friends.

There’s a licensed bar on site, too, which serves food at the weekends and is the perfect place to unwind after a hard days exploring North Yorkshire. There’s also a function room on site which can be hired for special events such as anniversaries, weddings and private parties (and would be an ideal place for a rally).

Off site there’s lots to explore in the area, with Selby being the nearest main town for supplies and restaurants. It also has a rather impressive 12th century abbey that is well worth having a look around – it’s similar in design to the much larger version at York and is surprisingly opulent for a market town parish church. If nothing else, go and stick a pound in the collection box – six million needs to be raised for its restoration…

York is also only a short drive away and offers all manner of tourist delights ranging from the Jorvik Viking centre to the splendour of the Minster. As well as walking the walls of this historic town, an essential visit has to be a stroll along the Shambles, where small gift shops and tea shops all jostle for the tourist coin.

The Yorkshire Air Museum at Elvington is also nearby and offers a wide range of aircraft for you to admire – ranging from WWII favourites such as Hurricanes and Spitfires to more modern aircraft such as a Lightning and delta-winged Javelin.
